What construction drone services does VSI Aerial provide?
We offer both one-time and interval (recurring) construction drone services including:Site Photography & Videography - Document progress at any phase of construction.2D Site Mapping - Accurate orthomosaic maps of the full site.3D Modeling - Point cloud and mesh models for BIM integration, volume calculations, and stakeholder reporting.Construction Progress Monitoring - Scheduled flights to track progress against plans.Post-Work Quality Inspections - Verify completed work matches design intent, identify issues early before sign-off.
When should I use drone services during a construction project?
Drones deliver value at every phase of construction:Pre-construction: Site surveys, topographic mapping, and stakeholder presentation materials.During construction:Progress monitoring, quantity tracking, subcontractor documentation, and safety oversight from angles ground crews can't access.Post-construction:Final inspections, punch-list documentation, roof and facade reviews, and delivery of marketing assets for the finished building.
Interval packages (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly flights) are particularly popular with GCs and owners who need a reliable visual record throughout the project lifecycle.
How are drones used for site surveys and mapping?
Drone surveys use photogrammetry - a process where hundreds of overlapping aerial images are stitched together using specialized software to produce accurate 2D orthomosaic maps and 3D point cloud models of a site. This data can be used for:
Volume and stockpile calculations, cut/fill analysis, as-built vs. design comparisons, BIM integration, stakeholder reporting, and legal documentation of site conditions. Drone surveys are faster and far less expensive than traditional land surveys for many of these use cases.
